home necessities
I thought I would share what kind of necessities I have for my cats! A lot of people use different ones!
Litter + Litter Box
I use horse pellet bedding! You can buy them for $8 a bag at Tractor Supply! To me personally, they smell better and don't hold odor like clay litter does. Their cat boxes are stainless steel sifting boxes! They are two pieces, where the pellets sit on the box with the tiny holes. As the cats do their business, the pellets eventually dissolve to wood dust, and you can just sift through the litter with a cat scoop to get it to the box underneath it! I use a plastic bag with a pee pad to help keep the smell contained. Their boxes are done everyday, and I change the pee pad three times a week, and take the bag out once a week. Right now, the bags are a bit expensive, so I am having to extend its use by just a bit, but don't keep it longer than a week.
Bowls
I use stainless steel cat bowls! Plastic is very bad for cats, as it can cause acne on their chins, and in bad situations, a pimple to grow. I had to take one of my cats to the vet from a plastic bowl disaster, and after that hard learned lesson, never again! You can also use ceramic bowls! I am currently looking into elevated cermaic bowls to help lessen the strain on their whiskers.
Cat Food
Right now, we are transitioning from Iams Indoor Hairball Control to Sam's Club Cat Food. They get 1/4 cup of this food in the mornings to help maintian their weight, with occasional treats throughout the day. They also get Sheba Wet Cat food at night!
Water Source
My children are very spoiled, and have cat fountains, which are also stainless steel. I tried doing plastic, which worked great... until it caused the hard earned lesson! One of my cats who also passed this past January, had to have a very specific type of cat fountain, so all of our cat fountains were based on him. They will forever be called the 'Shiro Fountains'. The Shiro Fountain has a long curved spout that he would get right to where it dispensed out and drink from there.
